STUDENT RESIDENCE HALL
MODEL SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF
As Gallaudet campus architect, Bauman established the basis of design and oversaw the design of the new 65,000 GSF student residence hall at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD). The new 160-bed dormitory opened in January 2017 to provide a “home-away-from-home” setting for MSSD students.
Under Bauman’s direction the new building, designed by Dangermond Keane Architecture, showcases Deaf architectural principles. Ground-level social gathering areas—the living room, kitchen and game area—encircle a new campus green, creating a new campus heart.
